Between Capes and Canvases. The Collection of the Barbabosa Cattle Ranching Family
An intimate journey through Mexico’s ranching and bullfighting tradition.
This auction brings together unique pieces that weave together history, art, and memory: from emblematic taxidermy works such as the legendary “Garlopo”, fought in 1880, to oils, sculptures, and objects that bring the bullring—and those who lived within it—to life.
The collection highlights works by great masters such as Carlos Ruano Llopis, Antonio Navarrete, Francisco “Pancho” Flores, Luis Solleiro, and Gerardo Lizárraga, along with an exceptional series of bullfighting bronzes and charro pieces signed by Ernesto Icaza.
Among the most symbolic treasures are the traje de luces of Jesús Solórzano Dávalos, “The King of Temple,” the death masks of Rodolfo Gaona and "Pepe" Ortiz, as well as the historic traje de charro alamarado belonging to Ernesto Icaza.
Each work is a testament to passion, tradition, and legacy—now within reach of collectors seeking more than just art: a living imprint of our history.
