On September 30th, Morton Subastas opens its doors to a journey into the past with the Antiques and Books Auction, an unmissable event for collectors and history enthusiasts. Come to our auction room at Monte Athos 179, register and participate. There is no need for an invitation or dress code; admission is open to the public.

Published in the same year that Porfirio Díaz assumed power, this collection of plates depicts locomotives, stations, bridges, and tunnels breaking into the landscapes of Veracruz, Orizaba, and Puebla, symbolizing the clash between pristine nature and technological modernity. More than simple illustrations, they are the visual chronicle of a Mexico in transition: from a rural world to a nation of “many Mexicos” that was beginning to unify around the railroad. It is no coincidence that Michael Mathes considered it among “the finest examples of lithographic art of the late 19th century.”
