Antiques and Books Auction – The Collector’s Cabinet

Welcome to an edition conceived for those who understand collecting as a form of knowledge and passion. The Collector’s Cabinet brings together pieces that engage in dialogue through their quality, rarity, and historical depth, ranging from Novohispanic art to European decorative arts and important early bibliographic editions.

The auction presents two significant collections. On one hand, an exceptional group of European porcelain and furniture of the highest quality, where technical mastery and decorative refinement define period interiors. On the other, a strong selection of Mexican furniture, Novohispanic painting, and sculpture, including works attributed to Luis Berrueco, a key figure of the eighteenth-century Puebla Baroque, whose presence underscores the historical and artistic importance of this edition.

The bibliographic section features fundamental first editions such as México y su evolución social by Justo Sierra, México a través de los siglos coordinated by Vicente Riva Palacio, and For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. Also noteworthy are signed copies by their authors, including La pintura general o de paisaje en la Academia de San Carlos by Eugenio Landesio, a cornerstone for nineteenth-century artistic education, and The World Crisis by Winston Churchill, a direct testimony from one of the central figures of the twentieth century.

The “Under the Radar” section, curated by Aketzalli Quintana, brings together works of particular cultural and historical value, selected for their ability to reveal less evident yet deeply meaningful narratives. A distinguished section dedicated to charrería completes the sale, featuring saddles, hats, sarapes, and a painting by Francisco Alfaro, a visual chronicler of nineteenth-century equestrian tradition in Mexico.

This auction is an invitation to discover, study, and acquire pieces that transcend the decorative to become part of new collections. Do not miss the exceptional opportunities presented in this edition—the next great treasure of your collection is here.

“The Identity of the Brush” is a must-attend talk for those who seek to understand art beyond its surface. Led by Dr. Alejandro Julián Andrade Campos, this conversation explores how the artist’s hand, technique, and stroke reveal the essence of each work. We look forward to welcoming you to this experience as part of the 39th anniversary of Morton Subastas.
